The LVSC poll/ranking usually responds differently to teams losing games or winning games, so I find this weeks poll extremely interesting as Florida, Arkansas and Michigan State all fall into the Overrated category. All three teams had impressive showings on Saturday. Anyway, we’re sticking with the program:
Overrated
Michigan State remains unranked by Vegas, but that may soon change
Team | Vegas Ranking | Polling Average | Index |
---|---|---|---|
Coastal Carolina | 25 | 17 | -8 |
Wisconsin | 23 | 16.5 | -6.5 |
Michigan State | Unranked | 20.5 | -4.5 |
Arkansas | 21 | 17 | -4 |
Penn State | 10 | 7 | -3 |
Florida | 14 | 11 | -3 |
Ole Miss | 16 | 13 | -3 |
Underrated
The rumors of Gary Patterson’s demise were a bit premature. Here come the Frogs!
Underrated
Team | Vegas Ranking | Polling Average | Index |
---|---|---|---|
TCU | 13 | 27 | 14 |
Oklahoma State | 12 | 25.5 | 13.5 |
Liberty | 18 | 26.5 | 85 |
Kansas State | 24 | 29 | 5 |
Auburn | 19 | 23 | 4 |
Texas A&M | 3 | 6 | 3 |
Thoughts
Like I said, this is a very interesting poll that Vegas is releasing, they are calling it the “Title Odds Rankings” and they aren’t saying anything about their methodology…so we will take it for what it is.
- Penn State and BYU are our biggest movers upward, the Lions and Cougars moved up four spots each
- Florida and Auburn moved down, the Gators moving four spots and the Tigers three. Both teams had very strong showings but came up short. In the past, Vegas’ rankings have responded positively to this type of result…but not this year.
- Added to the rankings: Michigan (welcome back, Cotter), Arkansas, Kansas State, and Coastal Carolina.
- Dropped: Virginia Tech, Miami (we can stop talking about “the U” now), Central Florida, and UCLA.
- Three teams have an index of zero, meaning their polling average and Vegas ranking are identical: Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State.
